Adilabad: A farmer attempted to die by suicide by consuming pesticide as he was allegedly depressed over delay in the procurement of his soya crop by officials at an agriculture market yard in Boath mandal centre on Friday.
The farmer from Kuchulapur village in Boath mandal, Edmala Mohan Reddy, picked up an argument with the chairman of the agriculture market committee over the delay in purchasing the soya crop shifted to the facility four days ago. He then tried to kill himself by consuming pesticide. His bid, however, was thwarted by other farmers who were present at the spot.
Mohan Reddy said that he was vexed at the delay in purchasing the soya crop by officials of the Markfed. He wondered as to who would be responsible if the produce was stolen. He claimed that he was staying at the yard protecting the produce for the last four days.
