Hyderabad: Responding to BRS working president KT Rama Rao’s statement on the State government issuing notices asking apartment complexes with power consumption exceeding 20 kW to set up their own transformers at their expense, Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TGSPDCL) on Tuesday claimed that it had not started any new practice to burden the consumers and that as per norms, apartments and commercial complexes were required to get separate dedicated transformers.

In a statement issued here, the SPDCL management stated that it was an ongoing exercise and was under practice for over 11 years to prevent power overloads and to ensure reliability. It claimed that during the last 10 years, 35790 private transformers were installed to apartments and multi-storied buildings.
