Hyderabad: Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla lauded Indian women handball team for clinching the gold medal in the 16th Asian Women”s Handball Championship held at Almaty, Kazakhstan from March 7 to 14.

He also appreciated and expressed his best wishes to the team. With this win, the Indian team also qualified fir the first time for the World Championship to be held at Slovania.

The team was felicitated by the Handball Federation of India (HFA) in Delhi on Wednesday. Rajiv Mehta, Secretary General Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Shri Anil Khanna, senior vice-president IOA, Jagan Mohan Rao, Dr Tejraj Singh, Secretary General HFI and Dr Anandeshwar Pandey, Treasurer of IOA graced the event.
