Hyderabad: The City Police have stepped up anti-drug surveillance ahead of New Year celebrations by deploying special cluster teams across the city.
On the directions of Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) formed 10 clusters in coordination with Law and Order Police, City Armed Reserve (CAR) personnel and the Narcotic Dog Squad.
As part of the special drive, decoy teams conducted surprise checks at pubs, clubs, bars and restaurants on December 27 and 28. Police discreetly screened 65 suspicious persons using rapid drug testing kits during the inspections. One individual tested positive for cannabis on December 27, while no positives were found during checks conducted the next day.
The operation was carried out without causing inconvenience to the public or establishment management.
Police said such special checks will continue during the New Year period to ensure drug-free, safe and peaceful celebrations in the city.
