Hyderabad: This Dasara festival will be etched in the memory of close to 200 women forever since they got appointment orders to work as linewomen on par with linemen and carry out electrical repair works on poles. For the first time in the country, women will be working as junior linewomen in Telangana and climb poles to attend to repair works duly adhering to the safety norms prescribed by the government. The women were delighted after receiving the appointment orders from the officials of TS Transco.

The recruitment process of over 650 people including 199 women was finalised in 2017 but it later landed in the court. Since the matter was resolved, the Transco officials handed over the appointment orders to the women as Dasara gift. The women were recruited after successfully completing various tests including climbing of towers carried out by the TS Transco. They can now easily even climb towers up to seven floors of a building and poles without any fear.

Swarnalatha hailing from erstwhile Mahbubnagar got easily selected for the job as she not only completed ITI (Electrical), the main educational qualification for the job, in 2015 but also honed skills in climbing poles while doing electrical repair works in the village at agricultural lands.

Another woman, B Jyothi of Nekkonda mandal in Warangal district, said the appointment orders were nothing but a Dasara gift to her. “I was selected after completing the tower test,” the elated Jyothi said. Thanking Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and TS Transco CMD D Prabhakar Rao, the women, who got the appointment orders, vowed to work hard and excel in the field. “We succeeded in getting the job only with the support of their family members,” they said. Sources said plans have been chalked out to recruit an additional 250 women for the same posts.
