Kothagudem: The district administration has decided to appoint special officers to monitor cotton procurement in Kothagudem district.

District Collector MV Reddy held a video-conference with the DRDA, DCO, marketing, GCC and civil supplies department officials and said the special officers will have to look after the smooth procurement of cotton.

There are four Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) procurement centres in the district. Last Thursday, the officials concerned were directed to issue tokens to farmers for the procurement of paddy, cotton and maize.

In view of the covid-19 pandemic, the officials were directed to ensure paddy procurement at village level at 250 centres set up across the district to procure paddy he said here on Wednesday.

The date allotted to the farmers has to be informed to them beforehand so that they could arrive at the procurement centres on the given date and it would help to prevent rush at the procurement centres.

Serious action would be taken against agriculture officers if anyone was found neglecting issuing of tokens, he warned while informing that a meeting would be held on Thursday to review the progress in the issuing of tokens to the farmers.

For the maize farmers who have not registered online, the tokens have to be issued by recording their details in a physical register. There were 12 centres for maize procurement. Steps have to be taken to increase the centres if needed, he noted.
