Khammam: District Collector VP Gautham directed the officials to speed up the works to rehabilitate the villagers evacuated by SCCL’s Kistaram opencast mine in the district.
The Collector on Thursday visited Cherukupalli village where rehabilitation works were underway to relocate as many as 107 evacuees of Jagannadhapuram village of Sathupalli mandal in the district as part of the compensation package. Gautham interacted with the villagers and assured them that all basic facilities would be provided at the rehabilitation site along with developing educational and medical infrastructure.

Earlier in the day, the Collector attended a Podu Action Plan grama sabha held at Perikakunta village of Penuballi mandal. He directed gram panchayat secretaries to visit the villages to receive the claims personally from the podu cultivators. The State government has embarked upon the implementation of Podu Action Plan to provide title deeds to eligible podu cultivators and to ensure that not a single inch of forest land would be encroached in future, Gautham noted.
He told the tahsildars to issue caste certificates immediately to those who applied for the certificates to submit along with their claims. Those who have not submitted their claims yet should do so forthwith, he said. The Collector also attended a grama sabha at Turakalagudem in Sathupalli mandal on the day. Kallur RDO Suryanarayana, tahsildar Menon and others were present.
