Adilabad: Two persons died when a speeding van from Maharashtra ran over a youngster and then turned turtle killing a person travelling in the vehicle at Godariguda village in Utnoor mandal on Thursday. An elderly man died on the spot and five others sustained injuries when the van overturned after the driver lost control over the wheels after running over the youth.
Utnoor Sub-Inspector Subba Rao said that the deceased were Jibre Megharaj (19), a student native of Kothapalli village in Gadiguda mandal and Kanaka Jangu (60), Dongargaon village in Mandvi in Maharashtra.
Megharaj received serious injuries when the van crushed him while he was jogging along with his friend Bandi Kiran on Utnoor-Jannaram road at around 5 am, resulting in instantaneous death for him and injuries to Kiran. Jangu had fatal injuries in the accident and died on the spot. The van carrying around 10 devotees was heading to Gudirevu village in Dandepalli mandal at the time of the mishap.
It is learned that the driver of the van could not notice the youngsters due to the light focus of headlamps of the oncoming trucks, causing the accident. The injured were shifted to a government hospital in Utnoor. Their medical condition is stable.
Following a complaint received from family members of Megharaj, a case was registered against Athram Nagorao, the driver under Section of 302 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code and is being investigated.
