Sports briefs: Ayaansh, Adhya emerge champions in sub-junior tennis

K Ayaansh and G Adhya Reddy won the boys’ and girls’ under-10 titles at the Hyderabad District sub-junior tennis tournament. Ayaansh also won the under-12 boys’ title, while Aleeza Simra claimed the girls’ crown

Hyderabad: K Ayaansh and G Adhya Reddy won the boys and girls under-10 titles respectively in the Hyderabad District sub-junior tennis programme tournament at Lake View Tennis Academy here.

Ayaansh defeated Suryansh Reddy 8-1 in the boys’ final, while Adhya recorded an 8-0 win against Krishvi Ratna.


In the under-12 category, G. Ayaansh defeated B. Aarav 8-5, while Aleeza Simra scored an 8-1 win against D.Swecha in the girls’ final.
The results: Finals: Boys: Under-10: K. Ayaansh bt Suryansh Reddy 8-1.

Under-12: G. Ayaansh bt B. Aarav 8-5.
Girls: Under-10: G. Adhya Reddybt Krishvi Ratna 8-0.

Under-12: Aleeza Simra bt D. Swecha 8-1.

Ashrit, Yuvan win titles

Ashrit Padhy and Shhaik Suheera Mehreen won the boys and girls under-9 titles, respectively, in the SLAN Hyderabad kids chess tournament here.

In the under-14 category, Adhrit Padhy and Shivanya won the titles in the boys and girls sections, respectively.

Final placings: Boys: Under-9: 1. Ashrit Padhy, 2. Yuvan Rodda, 3. R. Vihaan Kumar.

Under-14: 1. Adhrit Padhy, 2. J. Sai Sathvik, 3. Aayansh Mukhodpadhyay.

Girls: Under-9: 1. Shaik Suheera Mehreen, 2. P. Ch. Ruthvika, 3. J. Shri Vishishta.

Under-14: 1. S. Shivanya, 2. K. Chidwilasin, 3. Shri Thashathikai.

Nihal, Jatin, Rajesh hog limelight

N Nihal Reddy cracked a century (103 n.o., 98b, 21×4) to help Sri Chakra Cricket Club defeat Nizam College by 87 runs in the HCA B-Division two-day league cricket championship here.

In the C-Division Institution one-day league, Jatin Mehta (111, 50b, 12×4, 7×6) and M. Rajesh (seven for 13) helped Air India drub IDL by 206 runs.

The scores: B-Division two-day league: Sri Chakra 190 in 41 overs (N Nihal Reddy 103 no, B. Ramakrishna 3/43, D. Balaji Naik 4/53) bt Nizam College 103 in 25.3 overs (R. Ashok 53).

C-Division Institution one-day league: HAL 297/5 in 30 overs (Soumalya Bhattacharjee 86, G. Venkat Sai Raj 64, K. Rajendra Babu 61 no, B. Sudheer Reddy 3/40) bt Central Bank of India 57 in 16 overs.

Air India 262/4 in 20 overs (Jatin Mehta 111, M Prabhu Kiran 57) bt IDL 56 in 10.5 overs (M. Rajesh 7/13).

RBI 180/7 in 20 overs (CH Ajaykumar Chowdary 32, Roshan M Shirsole 33, Soumit Panda 41) bt HMWS&SB 151/8 in 20 overs (Murali Swamy 47, Ankit Bhatnagar 53).

IICT 125 in 32.4 overs (L Srinivas 52, Dayaram Yadav 4/11) lost to NFC 128/4 in 17.3 overs (K. Sandeep Kumar 42, G. Chalapathi Rao 48).

VCIWU clinches honours 

Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University won the Rev Fr T J Balaiah memorial inter-college volleyball tournament, defeating Loyola College 25-12, 25-17 in the final.
The team coached by Anwar comprised Ramya, Srijana, Shirisha, Archana, Nandini, Yashwini, Srinidhi and Drakshyani.
The result: Final: VCIWU bt Loyola College 25-12, 25-17.

TG team qualifies for Phase 1

Telangana men’s recurve team qualified for Phase 1 of the Khelo India Tribal Nationals to be held in Chhattisgarh.

The State team comprising K Ashwith Dora, E. Anand and K. Laxman finished fourth in the team eliminations round at the Khelo India tribal national phase II at the Yamuna Sports Complex in Delhi.

“This achievement highlights the team’s strong performance and dedication at the national level,” according to P. Shankaraiah, a well-known archery coach from Khammam.

Telangana team, which qualified for the Tribal Nationals Khelo India Phase 1.
