Hyderabad: Telangana women won the gold in the 22nd Senior South Zone national softball championship at Vasco Da Gama (Goa).

Telangana defeated Andhra Pradesh 5-3 while Kerala finished third.


In the men’s section, Telangana settled for a bronze, while Andhra Pradesh bagged a silver, losing to Kerala 1-5 in the final.

The results: Finals: Women: Telangana bt Andhra Pradesh 5-3.

Men: Kerala bt AP 5-1.

Shuttler Shaina settles for bronze in Dutch Junior International

India’s rising shuttler Shaina Manimuthu secured a bronze medal at the Dutch Junior International 2026, marking yet another strong international performance.

The Under-15 girls’ champion at the Badminton Asia Championships 2025 saw her impressive run end in the semifinals, where she went down to China’s Yi Qing Yin 21–17, 21–8 in 35 minutes.

En route to the semifinals, Shaina registered notable victories over the third and 13th seeds, underlining her growing potential and consistency on the global stage.

Senior chess player Ammineni Uday Kumar from Anantapur district put up a fine performance, finishing sixth in a field of 1000 and collected a cash prize of Rs 4,000 in the 13th National amateur chess championship in Hosur.

Uday, an international arbiter and a senior coach from Anantpur, had earlier won many rating chess tournaments.
