Participating in a meeting organised by Telangana Olympic Association in connection with Olympic Day celebrations 2021 through virtual mode, the Minister said the State government was according top priority to sports in the State.
Hyderabad: The State government has taken up construction of mini stadiums in every Assembly constituency in the State to promote sports in a big way, Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud said here on Wednesday.
“We have already completed the construction work of over 50 per cent stadiums and the remaining will be completed soon,” he said.
Participating in a meeting organised by Telangana Olympic Association in connection with Olympic Day celebrations 2021 through virtual mode, the Minister said the State government was according top priority to sports in the State.
Following directions from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the government had taken up various initiatives to develop infrastructure to promote sports, he said, adding that the Chief Minister also constituted a Cabinet sub-committee to work out a new sports policy.
“As per instructions of IT Minister K T Rama Rao, we are developing sports with the assistance of CSR funds of corporate companies,” he said. He exuded confidence that sports personalities Sania Mirza and Sai Praneeth would excel in the Tokyo Olympics and bring laurels to the State.
The government was extending various benefits to sports personalities to encourage them, Goud said, and advised the sports personalities to maintain fitness in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.
The Minister along with other dignitaries observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to India’s sprint icon Padmashri Milkha Singh who died of Covid-19 complications and others who were associated with sports in the State.
