Siddipet: Thousands of devotees turned up for the first day of the annual jatara celebrations of the Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple at Komuravelly on Sunday.

Since the first Sunday of jatara was celebrated as ‘patnamvaram’, the devotees had laid a ‘patnam’ (a unique kind of painting) on the premises of the temple to fulfill their vows.

The Siddipet police deployed 510 additional personnel to ensure that the devotees had a smooth darshan besides installing 88 CCTV cameras to monitor the devotees’ influx.

Devotees from Hyderabad and Secunderabad, who took up the deeksha, also arrived at the temple to relinquish it. They offered prayers on Sunday and will relinquish them on Monday after spending the night on the premises of the temple. The festivities will continue for the next 12 weeks.
