Mahabubnagar: Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud urged people on Friday to extend their cooperation in transforming Mahabubnagar into a Swachh town.

Speaking after flagging off two tractors, one earthmover and four swachh auto tippers that were procured for waste collection in the town, the Minister said the State government was taking up different developmental activities including road widening, junction development, underground drainage, parks and others.

“In addition to these, education and health sectors were witnessing rapid development. Apart from Government Medical College, a nursing college has also been sanctioned for the town. Besides, advanced facilities were being provided at the Government General Hospital in the town to discourage people from rushing to Hyderabad for medical treatment,” he said.

Regarding road development, the Minister informed that four-lane road was being developed from Jadcherla to Mahabubnagar, one bypass road, widening of existing roads, construction of new Collectorate building complex and other development works were being taken up at brisk pace.

Focusing on recreation facilities, mini Tank Bund and Kotha Cheruvu water bodies beautification and development was under progress, he said. “If people extend their cooperation, Mahabubnagar will be transformed into a Swachh town and set an example for others” said Srinivas Goud.

Earlier in the day, the Minister formally switched on the surveillance cameras set up at Palakonda in the Mahabubnagar municipality limits. These surveillance cameras were set up with a cost of Rs.3.80 lakh.

In the past, governments ignored the welfare and development activities in Palakonda. After TRS Government came to power, nearly Rs.10 crore were distributed as pensions.

“Once the bypass road works and new Collectorate building complex works are completed, Palakonda will be transformed into a urban locality” said the Minister adding that surveillance cameras will aid in efficient law and order and control Anti social activities in the village.
