Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy step down and make Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar the new Chief Minister to prove his commitment to Dalits. He also appealed to Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to take action in this regard, assuring complete cooperation from the BRS.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, Srinivas Yadav stated that the Congress government had failed to implement its electoral promises to Dalits and discontinued initiatives such as Dalit Bandhu introduced by the K Chandrashekhar Rao government. However, he said Congress leaders, including the Chief Minister, poured out their love for the Dalits by repeatedly referring to the Speaker as a Dalit to target the BRS.

“The BRS has never referred to Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar’s caste and has always respected him for his position and character,” he said, alleging that the Congress was repeatedly highlighting his caste to claim credit for his elevation to the post rather than his calibre and service to the people of Telangana.

Referring to the September 7 incident at the Assembly gates, the former Minister questioned the deployment of a large number of police personnel. He alleged that BRS legislators were injured in the scuffle where women legislators P Sabitha Indra Reddy and V Sunitha Laxma Reddy were dragged by their throats and sarees. He said the incident occurred outside the Assembly and questioned the Speaker’s jurisdiction in the matter.

Srinivas Yadav also questioned the cases of sexual harassment registered against BRS legislators who were going to the Assembly. He said he had been an MLA since 1994 but had never witnessed such cases being filed against legislators for attending the Assembly. “If such cases are registered against MLAs, who will come to the Assembly?” he ridiculed.

On the alleged remarks being attributed to MLC Thatha Madhu, he challenged the Congress to prove that Madhu made the alleged remarks against the Speaker. “If proved, all BRS legislators will apologise,” he said.

The senior BRS leader alleged that the Congress was using abusive language and damaging Telangana’s political culture. He also accused the government of taking credit for projects completed during the BRS regime by merely inaugurating them.

MLC L Ramana, MLAs KP Vivekananda and Kaleru Venkatesh and others were present.
