SS Rajamouli inspires graduates at GITAM Hyderabad convocation

GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad, conferred degrees on 1,990 students during its 17th graduation ceremony. Filmmaker SS Rajamouli inspired graduates, while renowned weaver Gajam Govardhana received an honorary D Litt for his contribution to India's handloom heritage

Sangareddy: As many as 1,990 students were conferred degrees during the 17th graduation ceremony of GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad, held at Rudraram in Sangareddy district on Saturday. The graduating students included 1,532 undergraduate, 372 postgraduate and 86 PhD scholars across diverse academic disciplines.

Acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli, who attended the graduation ceremony as the chief guest, inspired the graduating students with his motivational speech. He called upon them to strive for excellence in their chosen fields through unwavering dedication, passion and hard work. He encouraged the graduates to pursue every endeavour with commitment and purpose.

In his presidential address, President of GITAM University and Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat called upon the students to be passionate about their goals. The university conferred the Honorary Doctor of Letters (D Litt) on well-known weaver Gajam Govardhana in recognition of his outstanding contribution to handloom weaving and the preservation of India’s rich textile heritage.

A total of 17 gold medals were presented to meritorious students for academic excellence. Digudadi Pranav Rahul, from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, received the President’s Gold Medal for securing the highest overall rank among all BTech graduates. The university also awarded doctoral degrees to 86 research scholars in recognition of their significant contributions to research and innovation.

The Best Researcher Awards were presented to Dr Mohd Arshad Ansari, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, GITAM School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Dr MS Surendra Babu, faculty member in the Department of Chemistry, GITAM School of Science, for their exceptional research achievements.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Errol D’ Souza, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof DS Rao, Registrar Dr D Gunasekaran and others were present.
