Chennai: DMK President M K Stalin on Thursday slammed the ruling TVK for denying police permission to the DK to hold a statewide campaign against NEET and reservation for the EWS and alleged that TVK colluded with the BJP.

More than the BJP-led union government, it was the TVK regime which was “panicking” the most at the sight of protests against NEET and the reservation for the economically weaker sections, Stalin claimed.

“Claiming Periyar (EV Ramasamy) as its ideological leader, why has the TVK government deployed police forces right inside Periyar Thidal (Periyar grounds, the DK headquarters in Chennai)?” the former chief minister asked in a statement.

In the past, the DK –the parent organisation of Dravidian outfits- has successfully conducted such protests in a peaceful, righteous, and dignified manner, the DMK top leader said.

Stalin alleged that the TVK colluded with the BJP by remarking, “Banning the campaign of such a movement is strongly condemnable, it has now become certain through this that mixing red and yellow yields Saffron; dropping the politics of repression, the TVK government must grant appropriate permission for the DK’s campaign.”

The DMK chief demanded to know the reason for denial of permission to the Dravidar Kazhagam’s two-wheeler rally. “Yielding to whose pressure is this being done?” he asked. The DK said though its anti-NEET and EWS quota two-wheeler campaign (from July 30 to August 2, 2026) could be conducted by violating the ban, it would like to legally deal the issue.

“Comrades be calm,” DK President K Veeramani urged in a statement and announced postponement of the campaign. Permission has not been denied so far by any government in Tamil Nadu for such social justice campaigns, he claimed. The campaign, now deferred, urging the Centre to scrap NEET and EWS quota is an initiative of the DK’s youth, student and women’s wings.
