Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Saturday instructed Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials to start monsoon related works this month instead of postponing them till the rains arrived.

“Works related to the forthcoming monsoon should be taken up now. An action plan should be prepared to ensure the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) is executed within the stipulated timeline,” the Minister said during a review meeting here on Saturday. The SNDP has been taken up by the State government to strengthen the stormwater drain network in the city.

The Minister reviewed the works related to roads, Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) and other developmental works that are underway in GHMC limits. During the meeting, he also mentioned that road development and SRDP works received very good response from people belonging to all strata of society and these scores of developmental works would ensure good commuting for future generations too.

“Due to the development and laying of missing link roads, the traffic load on main roads has decreased. In addition to easing traffic, the link roads also increased the scope of new areas being developed,” he said.

Officials of the MA&UD Department, GHMC, Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL), Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board and others attended the meeting.
