State orders inquiry into death of Bhupalpally District Transport Officer in road accident

The Telangana government has ordered a detailed inquiry into the death of Bhupalpally District Transport Officer M Venkanna, who was killed in a road accident while on duty. A senior official has been नियुक्त to investigate and suggest safety improvements.

Hyderabad: The State government has ordered a detailed inquiry into the death of Bhupalpally District Transport Officer (DTO), M Venkanna, who was killed in a road accident while on official duty near the RTO office at Chelpur in Jayashankar- Bhupalpally district on Monday.

According to the government order issued by the Transport, Roads and Buildings Department, Venkanna was reportedly run over allegedly by a coal-laden lorry at around 9.30 am, while discharging his official responsibilities.

The government described the incident as a matter of serious concern and decided to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.

Joint Transport Commissioner M Chandra Shekar Goud has been appointed as the inquiry officer. He has been tasked with examining the facts surrounding the incident and submitting a detailed report to the government through the Transport Commissioner at the earliest.

The inquiry will also recommend measures to improve the safety of transport department field officers and staff during enforcement duties on public roads.

Suggestions are expected to cover changes in enforcement protocols, safety equipment and standard operating procedures for vehicle interception and seizure operations.

The Transport Commissioner has been directed to take further action based on the inquiry findings.
