Telangana
Telangana Legislative Council member Gutha Sukhender Reddy is all set to be elected to the post of chairman for a second term. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader filed nomination for the post. He submitted his papers to Legislature Secretary Narasimha Charyulu. He was accompanied by State ministers Vemula Prashant Reddy, Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Satyavathi Rathore, Jagdish Reddy and several legislators.
Sukhender Reddy said that he was thankful to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for giving him another opportunity to serve as Council chairman. TRS MLC Banda Prakash is likely to be appointed as deputy chairman. The election is set to be unanimous as the TRS has 34 members in 40-member Council.
Punjab

Ahead of the AAP’s roadshow to celebrate its stupendous win in the Punjab polls, party national convener Arvind Kejriwal along with Chief Minister-designate Bhagwant Mann on Sunday paid obeisance at the Golden temple. Soon after reaching here, Kejriwal headed straight to the Golden temple to offer prayers. Kejriwal and Mann took part in a roadshow in Amritsar to celebrate the party’s landslide victory and thank voters. The oath-taking ceremony will be held on March 16 at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, in Nawanshahr district where Mann will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister.
Uttar Pradesh

Days after the BJP retained power for the second consecutive term in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to visit Delhi to discuss the new cabinet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. National president JP Nadda, Amit Shah and BL Santosh in Delhi will be present at the meeting. The BJP is considering several new faces in the Cabinet along with the new Deputy Chief Minister. State president Swatantrata Dev Singh, BJP leader Sunil Bansal, State in-charge Radha Mohan Singh will also accompany Adityanath to Delhi. It is being speculated that the BJP leadership has prepared a basic list of probable Deputy Chief Ministers and Ministers on the basis of qualification, caste and regional equations.
Manipur

After the outcome of the Assembly elections in the BJP ruled Manipur and ahead of the crucial polls in the three northeastern states of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura, political realignments in the region were imminent. The BJP’s ally in Meghalaya, the National People’s Party (NPP), which has been the partner of the saffron party since 2017 in Manipur, has now announced it will function as an opposition party in the state after becoming the second largest party securing seven seats (against four seats five years ago). Another influential political party in Manipur and Nagaland — the Naga People’s Front (NPF), which after contesting against the BJP on 10 seats secured five seats this time against four in 2017, is yet to officially announce its final stand on supporting the BJP though it has indicated it will back the saffron party in Manipur.
Jammu & Kashmir

The historic Bhairon Jhanki festival is being celebrated in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. As a part of this festival, ‘Jhankis’ of Bhairon Baba is taken out a week before Holi. A person plays the role of Bhairon Baba as a part of ‘Jhanki’. The festival lasts for eight days. Two very important parts of the festival is ‘Bhairon Baba Ka Teeka’ and ‘Chimta Roopi Prasad’, which the locals believe keeps people away from disease and fear. Devotees are really keen to have the ‘Chimta Roopi Prasad’, which involves the person playing the character of Bhairon hitting the devotees with a ‘Chimta’. People were seen dancing to the tunes of drums on the roads during the procession.
