Telangana Taking exception to union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments on Hindi as an alternative to English, ruling TRS working president and Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao on Saturday said “language chauvinism and hegemony” in the country will boomerang. He said it would be a “great disservice to impose Hindi” on the nation’s youngsters who have global aspirations. “Unity in diversity is our strength dear @AmitShahJi. India is a union of states & a true ‘Vasudhaika Kutumbam’. Why don’t we let people of our great nation decide what to eat, what to wear, who to pray to, and what language to speak!,” Rama Rao tweeted with the hashtag #stopHindiImposition.
Jammu & Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a golden period as 80 lakh tourists visited the union Territory in the last few months, a record in the last 15 to 20 years, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said. He also highlighted several initiatives of the government to boost tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. The LG flagged off an event titled Athwas, a unique partnership between citizens and authorities for the rejuvenation of the Dal lake. Under the project, de-weeding and dredging of the waterbody will be carried out in collaboration with the citizens. He said the Dal lake has become cleaner and will be restored to its pristine glory soon.
Gujarat

After inaugurating the Indo-Pak border viewing point, union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the growth in tourism will generate at least five lakh jobs for the people in Nada Bet in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat. He said that the district in the next 10 years will see ample employment opportunities. The Home Minister mentioned the government’s vision in the development of the viewpoint and said that it would enable the people to interact with the protectors of the borders, the Border Security Force (BSF). PM Modi has taken a lot of initiatives for the security of the border and also the infrastructure development, he said.
The Home Minister also lauded the valour of the BSF and said that the paramilitary force has shown exemplary courage in safeguarding the border.
Assam
The heavy rainfall spells that have pounded several areas in northeastern India are likely to continue over Assam and Meghalaya during next five days with Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu too likely to receive heavy rainfall. Scores of places across northeast Indian States have been receiving very heavy rainfall for almost a week now while Tamil Nadu and Kerala have received rainfall in varied measures over the last two days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, under the influence of strong southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal to northeastern States at lower tropospheric levels, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm/ lightning is very likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya and isolated/scattered rainfall over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during next five days.
Uttar Pradesh
BSP chief Mayawati rejected Rahul Gandhi’s claim that she had spurned an alliance offer from his Congress during the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, asking him to get his own house in order instead of worrying about other parties. Gandhi had said that the Congress reached out to the BSP leader, offering her the Chief Minister’s post for contesting the Assembly polls together, but she did not respond. Hitting back at the Gandhi scion, Mayawati said all the allegations levelled by him are wrong and reflect his party’s casteist mindset and feeling of malice. The BSP supremo also accused Congress of failing to take any concrete step during its long tenure to improve the social and economical condition of dalits and other deprived sections of the society.
