Khammam: Steps were being taken to contain Covid-19 in mandals along Telangana and Andhra Pradesh borders, informed Zilla Parishad Chairman Lingala Kamalraj. Speaking at the ZP general body meeting here on Saturday, Kamalraj said Covid positive cases were being reported in Madhira, Bonakal, Wyra, Sathupally and Vemsoor mandals, but the situation was under control.

Responding to requests from several Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) members who sought the Covid vaccination programme to be carried out at village-level, the ZP chairman said Collector VP Gautham has already directed mandal-level officers to take immediate steps to prevent spread of the Covid. The progress achieved in the field medical and health, agriculture and welfare during the past years were reviewed at the meeting.

The current ZP body succeeded in taking welfare and development programmes to grassroots level and the district was placed top in the State in terms of development. With the active support from the elected members, district officials and medical officers the spread of Covid-19 was contained effectively by developing required health infrastructure at grassroots level, Kamalraj said.

Collector VP Gautam said elected members and officials have been working in coordination to control Covid-19. However, during the field visits, sanitation was found to be poor at several habitations which could lead to spread of seasonal diseases like dengue and malaria. Hence, the officials and elected members have been advised to visit the villages to create awareness among the public to maintain cleanliness in the villages. Sanitation works have to be carried out regularly and dry-day should be observed on every Tuesday and Friday.

Likewise, the importance of maintaining physical distance and wearing face masks should be explained to the residents in towns and villages in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19, Gautham suggested. The names of officials of concerned departments have to be displayed at Rythu Vedikas along with the timings of their availability at the vedikas to assist the visiting farmers regarding their agriculture activities, he added.

MLC B Lakshminarayana wanted to ramp up the vaccination drive in the mandals that recorded high number of Covid positive cases. Additional Collector Snehalatha Mogili, ZP in-charge CEO K Sriram, District Library Chairman MA Qamar and others were present.
