Hyderabad: The State government has taken necessary steps to modernise the State Disaster Response and Fire Services (SDR&FS) Department by providing latest equipment and imparting training to the firemen, Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali said on Sunday. Participating as chief guest at the Telangana Fire Ride-2021 organised by SDR&FS Department on Necklace Road here, the Minister said there were only 97 fire stations in Telangana region before State formation.

“The State government allocated 20 more fire stations within a short span,” he said. He said new fire motorcycles were also given to all the fire stations across the State. These vehicles would enable firemen to reach the spot on time to carry out fire-fighting operations quickly on receiving a call. Every year, fire-brigade observes April 14 as National Fire Service Day since 1944, as the fire service personnel displayed exemplary courage when they fought huge fire that broke out after an explosion on a foreign ship at Mumbai Port Trust.

As many as 66 fire personnel lost their lives during the fire-fighting and rescue operation and to commemorate the sacrifice these personnel, the fire-brigade observes April 14 as National Fire Service Day, SDR&FS officials said.
