Kothagudem: District Collector Anudeep Durishetty has directed the panchayat officials to take immediate steps to stop contamination of river Godavari at Bhadrachalam in the district due to dumping of garbage in it. The garbage should not be dumped in and around Godavari and steps should be taken to move all the garbage to the dumping yard to make vermi-compost. In view of the historical importance of Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Temple at Bhadrachalam it was important to keep the town clean, he said.
The Collector inspected the site allotted for the construction of a dumping yard at Manubothula tank in Bhadrachalam mandal on Tuesday. He said that the machinery for vermi-compost making and a hydraulic machine for separating wet and dry waste should be procured. Durishetty told panchayat officials to complete the dumping yard works by the end of March and warned that action would be taken against the concerned officials in case of non-completion. Electricity department officials should be consulted to install a power transformer at the dumping yard.
Gram panchayat workers have to be trained in segregating dry and wet waste. Proposals have to be submitted to purchase tractors and Swachh auto rickshaws from TS Agro Company for the door to door collection of garbage, he suggested. Every officer should take care to make Bhadrachalam a clean town as it was a temple town. All should own the responsibility to see that any inconvenience would be caused to devotees coming from other districts and states to Bhadrachalam, he added.
