Khammam: The State government was making all efforts to provide storage facilities to farmers across Telangana by constructing warehouses in the villages, Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar said on Friday.

He along with Yellandu MLA, B Haripriya laid the foundation stone for a warehouse and for PACS office building to be built with Rs 31.58 lakhs at Pandithapuram village in Kamepalli mandal in the district on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion the minister said the warehouse has a capacity of 500 metric tonnes to supply fertilisers and seeds to the farmers in time. The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao has been implementing various programmes to strengthen agriculture and to support farmers.

Many irrigation projects were constructed to irrigate the fields in the State. Schemes like Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima, free electricity supply to irrigation pump sets have helped the farming community to become economically strong, Ajay Kumar noted.

Measures like purchasing agricultural produce at village level through PACS proved beneficial to farmers as they were able to sell the produce at minimum support price without any hassles, he explained.

The minister laid the foundation stone road widening and road divider works worth Rs 1.04 crore on Tekulapalli-Gundala road in Kothagudem district. Speaking on the occasion he said widening of few other roads would also be taken up.

Earlier in the day, Ajay Kumar along with Mayor P Neeraja took part in a plantation programme at Pattana Prakriti Vanam in Khammam Municipal Corporation’s 20th division where around 2000 saplings were planted.

MLC, B Lakshminarayana, TS Seeds Corporation Chairman, K Koteshwara Rao, DCC Bank Chairman K Nagabhushanam and others were present.
