Hyderabad: The stormwater drain works at Ameerpet have disrupted traffic on the SR Nagar–Mythrivanam stretch, one of the busiest stretches in the city, causing delays for commuters passing through the area. Vehicles slowed as work progressed along the route, affecting the regular flow of traffic in and around Ameerpet.
A portion of the stormwater drain adjacent to Swarna Jayanti Complex, Ameerpet, where the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) head office is located, was dug up. Over 40 per cent of the stretch was blocked due to the drain work. As a result, traffic in the area moved slowly, resulting in a significant traffic jam for the past three hours.
“Widening works on the existing stormwater drain have been taken up to ensure smooth flow of drainage water and prevent overflow in the coming monsoon. We have completed similar work on the opposite side of this site a few months ago. We will complete the work in a week or two,” said a GHMC engineering official.
The official said the digging area has been barricaded as part of safety measures and signboards were placed to caution.
