Karimnagar: Stree Nidhi, a credit cooperative federation limited promoted by the State government and women SHGs, is on a mission mode to launch a milk revolution in rural areas and empower women SHGs economically by providing them financial assistance to take up dairy units.
Stree Nidhi general manager Venugopal Reddy visited the Karimnagar district on Thursday and conducted a gram sabha with the all-women Milk Producer Institute (MPI) of the Karimnagar Dairy in Utoor village of Manakondur mandal.
Women SHG members of the village attended the meeting wherein the Stree Nidhi GM spoke about the importance of women taking up dairy units to increase their revenue sources and also provide nutritional food supplement to the entire family members.
Interacting with the women MPI members and the women SHG members of the village, Venugopal Reddy informed the women about the Stree Nidhi financial assistance for taking dairy units in a tie-up with the Karimnagar Dairy.
He informed them that his organisation will provide financial assistance for the purchase of milch animals from other States and provide transportation charges and insurance coverage for the animal and also assistance for raising the fodder.
He said that the best time to purchase milch animals was from August to December and added that the hybrid animal would give 10 to 15 litres and Murrah variety would give 8 litre of milk per day. He also apprised them about the importance of proper nurturing of the animals by providing proper fodder, health care, cleanliness around the cattle shed, vaccinations etc for more milk yield.
Following the interaction at the grama sabha, around 35 women from the SHGs have come forward to take up the dairy units for their economic activities. The Stree Nidhi has plans to conduct grama sabhas in all the villages to encourage dairy units and increase milk production. Karimnagar Dairy general manager (procurement and inputs) Sudhakar was also present.
