Khammam: In a freak accident a ninth class student had broken his two legs after falling into Munneru stream from the bridge across the stream in Khammam.
The student, B Eshwar of Indiramma Colony in Naidupet area on the outskirts of Khammam was studying in Government High School at Nayabazar in the city. On Monday evening he was walking home as the money his mother gave him for auto rickshaw fares was stolen in the school.
As he was walking on the Munneru bridge he found two buses coming in opposite directions. He then climbed the bridge railing fearing that they might hit him. He got frightened as a bus driver sounded horn loudly and fell into the stream from a height of over twenty feet from the bridge.
Sadly he fell on a rock in the stream and lost consciousness which made him spend all night in the cold winter on Monday night. A fisherman, Venu spotted the boy on Tuesday morning and alerted the police, who in turn informed the boy’s mother, Kavitha, a widow.
The boy was now being treated at a private orthopaedic hospital in the city. Speaking to Telangana Today on Wednesday, the boy’s mother said since bus facility was not available to their area it was a daily practice for the boy to travel by auto to reach home. The theft of Rs 50 which she gave him forced him to meet the ill fate, she lamented.
“Doctors are saying that a surgery has to be performed to restore her son’s two legs that were badly fractured besides a damage to his vertebral disc. The surgery needs a lot of money as the hospital authorities said Arogysri was not applicable for the treatment”, Kavitha said.
“I am eking out a meagre income by tailoring work and I am not able to spend huge amounts on my only son’s treatment. It would be a great help to us if kind donors come forward with financial assistance”, he appealed.
