Students denied vegetables and basic facilities at Gurukul, says former MLA
Former MLA Sunke Ravishankar criticised the Congress government for neglecting Gurukuls after visiting Jyothiba Phule BC Residential School in Gangadhara. Students said vegetables were not supplied, rice was half-boiled, and there was no hot water facility, causing illness
Karimnagar: BRS leader and former MLA Sunke Ravishankar criticised the Congress government for what he described as complete neglect of Gurukuls and failure to provide even basic facilities to students.
Ravishankar visited the Jyothiba Phule BC Residential School (Girls) in Gangadhara on Monday and interacted with students and parents to enquire about the amenities being provided. Students told him that vegetable curries had not been served for the past fortnight as vegetables had not been supplied to the school. They said half-boiled rice was being served with only dal, rasam and egg.
Parents and students further informed him that children were being forced to wake up at 4 am and take bath with cold water since there was no hot water facility, leading to several students suffering from cold and fever.
When the legislator enquired with officials, the Residential Coordinator Officer reportedly revealed that the vegetable supplier had stalled supplies because bills had not been paid for the last eight months by the government.
Ravishankar said the Congress government, which frequently claims to be serving fine-quality rice in student meals, was not able to supply even basic vegetable curries in Gurukuls.
