Medak: Students of the hostel attached to the Government Polytechnic College at Gomaram in Shivampet mandal have complained of being served rice infested with bugs and insects. Despite repeated complaints, they alleged that the situation had not improved.
The polytechnic college has 130 students, of whom only 45 stay in the hostel while the rest are day scholars. The hostel also lacks a boundary wall and proper lighting. Students said that although they pay between Rs 2,200 and Rs 2,400 a month, they are not served quality food.
Unable to consume the insect-infested rice, many boarders are reportedly going to bed on empty stomachs, leaving much of their food untouched. Fear of reprisal has also prevented several students from speaking out openly.
Following complaints from their wards, parents visited the hostel and raised the issue with the warden and principal. However, students claimed that there has been no improvement in either the menu or the quality of food.
The hostel management declined to respond on the issue.
