Students stage rasta-roko at Belapur, demand special buses to reach schools, colleges
Students staged a rasta-roko at Belapur in Sangareddy’s Manoor mandal, demanding a special TGSRTC bus service to schools and colleges in Manoor and Narayankhed. They said delays were causing missed classes and urged authorities to improve transportation facilities
Sangareddy: School- and college-going students staged a rasta-roko at Belapur in Manoor mandal, demanding that the TGSRTC operate a special bus service for students to enable them to reach schools and colleges in Manoor and Narayankhed on time.
As the students were travelling on a regular RTC bus along with other passengers, they said they could not reach their institutions on time. Apart from missing one or two classes, the students complained that the delay in reaching the institutions was causing them to miss important classes, which could eventually have an impact on their examination results.
As their repeated appeals for a special service received no response from the RTC management, the students said they decided to protest by blocking RTC buses at Belapur on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Praveena, a ZPHS Manoor student, said the RTC bus was not entering the Manoor mandal headquarters as road works were underway on the Bidar-Nizampet highway.
She further said they were forced to walk nearly one kilometre to reach the school after getting down from the bus and were again forced to walk another kilometre to catch the bus in the evening. Not only school students, but also college students travelling to Narayankhed were struggling due to a lack of proper transportation facilities.
The Class X and Intermediate students were struggling the most as they were preparing for their board examinations. While raising slogans against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and highlighting the Congress government’s alleged inability to provide proper transportation facilities to students, they urged the TGSRTC to operate a special bus service to meet the needs of students and ensure that the buses travel via their institutions.
