The activists staged a sit-in in front of the main gate of the university demanding action against officials, following the suicide of a student. They picked up an argument with the staffers of the security wing of the university over preventing them from entering the campus. One of the activists sustained injuries when the activists and staffers pushed each other, resulting in the tension.
Upon learning about the situation, police rushed to the spot and shifted the activists to the Basar police station. They released the activists in the evening. Advising the students to stage protests peacefully, they warned of stringent action against those who disturb law and order.
The activists alleged that the management of the university was using security personnel to attack the activists of the union. They declared that they would continue to protest until the management took steps to address the challenges of the students.
