Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s announcement on the job notification in the State Assembly on Wednesday has flummoxed the State BJP leadership, particularly since the saffron party was planning to make a big noise with the ‘Million March’ it proposed to organise shortly.

Caught off guard by the sudden and unexpected development, the party’s think tank reportedly went into a huddle, after the Chief Minister made the announcement and discussed threadbare the impact it would have on the party’s prospects in the next elections.

Sources said there was not much of convergence of views on the issue among the BJP leaders with some arguing that the State government had not made any budgetary allocations that was quickly shot down by others stating that the allocation would not be a problem for the government and that it would be wise not to harp on it.

What really did the BJP leaders in,was that they expected the announcement pertaining to job notification would be confined to filling only a few thousand vacancies. But when the Chief Minister announced the package that not only included job notifications for 80,039 vacant posts but also increase in upper age limit and regularisation of contract jobs, the leaders were stunned into silence.

The sources said the BJP leaderhip had decided to try to pick holes in the job notifications and get them challenged in a court of law to make it a legal issue in an attempt to stall implementation of the recruitment process. A disturbingly similar plan that led to delay in completion of the irrigation projects in the State.

The saffron party had pinned its hopes on the ‘Million March’ with which it hoped to garner the support of the youth in the State, but Chandrashekhar Rao, in one stroke, pulled the carpet from under their feet, leaving the BJP leadership floundering.

The BJP president Bandi Sanjay, at his press conference, had also unwittingly revealed the BJP gameplan when he said the government should be careful in chalking out the notification properly and ensure that it doesn’t have any errors that could open the doors for legal battle. The comment was a clear indication that they would go through it with a fine comb with legal experts looking for some anomaly that would give them a handle to stall a process that promised employment to jobless youth.
