Mulugu: A Sub-Inspector, working with Wajedu police station died, allegedly by shooting himself with a revolver, at a resort near Mullakatta village in Eturnagaram mandal early on Monday morning. He was supposed to get married next week.

SI Rudrarapu Harish was found dead after he allegedly shot himself with his service revolver in a room of the resort. On Sunday evening, Harish told his family members that he was going to work and reached a resort, where he booked a room. At night, he allegedly shot himself with his service revolver in his room. On Monday morning, the resort staff saw Harish’s room door open, and he was lying on the bed in a pool of blood. They immediately informed the Eturunagaram police, who reached the resort and carried out an investigation. After completing the formalities, the body was shifted to government hospital for postmortem.

Though the exact reason behind his extreme step was yet to be ascertained, police suspect that personal problems might have driven to end his life. Harish, who hailed from Venkateshwarlapalli village in Bhupalpally district, had his marriage fixed for next week and was said to be under pressure due to another affair. However, the police are yet to confirm this angle.

The incident created a flutter as it came a day after seven Maoists were killed in an encounter with police in Mulugu district. Harish had been under significant stress since last month, following the murder of two individuals by Maoists on suspicion of being police informers within his jurisdiction. After the incident, senior police officials reportedly blamed Harish for the incident and he was upset over this.

Harish, who belongs to the 2020 batch of Regonda mandal in Bhupalpally district, had earlier served as a probationary SI at Vajedu police station. Later, he served as an SI at Peruru police station in Vajedu mandal. He was working at the Wajedu police station for the last six months.
