Kothagudem: Subsidised sewing machines were distributed to members of a Mutually Aided Cooperative Society (MACS) at Nava Bharat Women’s Empowerment Centre at Paloncha in the district.
As many as 30 women who were trained by the Women’s Empowerment Centre were given sewing machines as part of 68th All India Cooperative Week celebrations under the aegis of Navayuga Women Thrift MACS Limited, a statement from the centre said here on Saturday.
The machines were distributed by District Cooperative Officer, N Venkateshwarlu in the presence of Lead District Manager, K Srinivas Rao and Kakatiya Cooperative Training College, Warangal, principal, P Rajaiah and Nava Bharat vice president, Y Srinivasa Murthy.
Speaking on the occasion, Venkateshwarlu appreciated Nava Bharat for imparting training to women from underprivileged sections to help them become financially strong. Srinivas Rao explained about the government schemes to the women.
Rajaiah explained about the role of cooperative societies in women empowerment. Srinivasa Murthy appealed to the women in and around Paloncha to make use of vocational training being offered by Nava Bharat.
A member of Navayuga Women Thrift MACS, A Raja Kumari informed that she has been earning an amount of Rs 5000 to 6000 per month by selling palm leaves products and by stitching school uniforms.
