Suicide by Nizamabad family in Godavari: One more body retrieved
Venu, his wife Anuradha and Purnima tried to kill themselves by plunging from a high-level bridge built across the river early on Wednesday morning. Venu's body was retrieved the same day
Nirmal: The body of a woman who along with her parents attempted to die by jumping in Godavari river due to alleged harassment of moneylenders, was retrieved from the river near Basar on Thursday.
Mudhole Inspector Mallesh said the body of Purnima (25), the youngest daughter of Uppalinchi Venu (54), a pan shop owner from Nizamabad town was fished out by the expert divers from the river around 5 km away from the spot of the incident. The family hails from Mothkuru in Yadadri-Bhongir district.
Venu, his wife Anuradha and Purnima tried to kill themselves by plunging from a high-level bridge built across the river early on Wednesday morning. Venu’s body was retrieved the same day.
Anuradha was rescued by local fishermen downstream. A search operation was launched to spot Purnima’s body, whose wedding was scheduled to be held soon.
Venu reportedly borrowed Rs 3 lakh from local moneylenders when he reeled under financial crisis due to losses in pan shop business a few months back.
It was learnt that he was subjected to harassment by the moneylenders for failing to repay the loan. Unable to bear the torture, the family resorted to the extreme step.
Based on a complaint received from Anuradha, a case was registered. Investigations were taken up.
