Kothagudem: Mahajana Mahila Samaikhya district president Mekala Latha attempted suicide at Bhadrachalam in the district on Monday.

She ingested sleeping pills and was shifted to the Government Area Hospital at Bhadrachalam for treatment. She recorded a selfie video and posted it on social media. She alleged that some dalit organisation leaders were harassing her over settlement of a dispute.

Latha accused some individuals, Gunde Suhasini, Tokala Durga Prasad, Mudda Pichaiah, Kanaka Srinu and T Ramanaiah, of harassing her for intervening in an issue wherein injustice was allegedly done to a woman. The local police were also aware of the issue, she said.

She appealed that those responsible for her death should not be spared under any circumstances. The incident has caused a stir in Bhadrachalam. The woman’s health condition was not known yet.
