Hyderabad: The summer carnival has started early for Telugu film lovers with the release of Pawan Kalyan, Rana Daggubati-starrer ‘Bheemla Nayak’, and that would go on to till May. As high-budget Telugu movies are schedule to release, this season will likely be wrapped up with Venkatesh Daggubati, Varun Tej’s ‘F3’.
The Covid pandemic and subsequent waves have pushed all big-budget movie makers to announce the release dates at once in this summer with a minimum gap of two weeks. Generally, big-budget movies would release from last week of March to May end, but the pandemic made the filmmakers hasten their releases even before summer holidays began.
The movies which have been lined up as summer releases include Prabhas, Pooja Hegde-starrer ‘Radhe Shyam’ on March 11. The most-awaited movie of the season, ‘RRR’, made by none other than SS Rajamouli, which has stellar a star cast of Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Alia Bhatt, and Ajay Devgn, is scheduled to release worldwide on March 25.
Then comes Megastar Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan collaboration, ‘Acharya’, releasing on April 29. The other awaited movie of the season is Mahesh Babu, Keerthy Suresh’s ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’, which is scheduled to release on May 12. The last big-budget movie to entertain the audience is ‘F3’, another multi-starrer led by Venkatesh and Varun Tej, which releases on May 27.
Besides these, there are some small and medium budget movies slated to release in this season making use of the gaps between the big-budget movies. Some filmmakers are taking a chance and releasing it on the same day as well. And then there are also movies dubbed from other languages like English, Hindi, and south Indian languages, which will enthral film lovers this summer – especially ‘KGF2’ as its first part was a huge hit in Telugu language.
It has been witnessed during the release of movies like ‘Akhanda’ and ‘Pushpa’ that the entertainment-starved public are ready to consume any number of movies that get released to make up for their loss in the past couple of years. With over 91 per cent of the population vaccinated in the Telugu States, moviegoers are now more confident to venture into theatres.
The news of the release dates, movie updates, release of posters, first looks, teasers, trailers and tidbits from pre-release / audio functions and success meets are keeping the fans excited and hooked.
Speaking about the upcoming releases, the executive producer and Rastra Ramcharan Yuvashathi founder president Siva Cherry says, “We are eagerly waiting for movie releases, especially ‘RRR’ and ‘Acharya’, as Ram Charan acted in both the movies. These releases are big festivals for us and we are ready to celebrate the occasion in various ways.”
Talking about the pandemic and the likelihood of further postponements of movies, he expresses hope that there would be no Covid waves in near future. “Even if the movie gets postponed, we will be ready whenever it releases,” he shares excitedly.
Of course, there are hindrances with public exams scheduled till May as families will hesitate to watch the movies in theatres. “Yes, there are public exams but we are sure that people will come to watch the movies,” Siva adds.
As the pandemic is not completely out of our lives, the managements of theatres in the twin cities are taking all the safety measures to accommodate the huge crowds for these big-budget movies.
Sunil Narang, managing directors of Asian Cinemas, a multiplex chain in Telangana, says, “Whether it is a small film or big film, we in Asian Group take care of all sanitising, masking, and thorough cleaning after each show. We’ve also taken more staff on board to take of the audience.”
Narang adds that the theatres now have good footfalls. Overall, in Telangana, there is good response to the movie releases, which is a good sign, he concludes.
