Surgeons of Osmania General Hospital perform rare surgery, save life of 30yr old

The patient was suffering from Diahphragmatic Hernia, a birth defect and another rare clinical medical condition known as Gastric Volvulous.
Hyderabad: Surgeons of Osmania General Hospital (OGH) have saved the life of a 30-year-old woman who was suffering from two rare ailments and needed an urgent surgical intervention.
A resident of Kamareddy district, the patient was admitted to OGH with severe abdomen pain and vomiting and a series of diagnostic tests revealed she was suffering from Diahphragmatic Hernia, a birth defect and another rare clinical medical condition known as Gastric Volvulous.
According to the doctors from the OGH Department of Surgery, Gastric Volvulous is a rare condition wherein the stomach is abnormally rated by 180 degrees, which causes acute abdominal emergency or a chronic intermittent problem. Diaphragmatic hernia is a birth defect where there is a hole in the diaphragm, As a result, the organs in the abdomen including intestines, stomach, liver can move through the hole in the diaphragm and into the chest cavity.
“Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the risk of infections, we took up the procedure. When the patient was admitted, she was unable to take food or even walk. Post-surgery, the recovery has been good and the patient is ready to get discharged,” said OGH Superintendent, Dr. B Nagender.
The patient was discharged on Wednesday and has to visit the hospital again after two-weeks for a follow-up. The surgeons involved in the procedures included Dr.Nagendar, Dr.Anil Kumar, Dr. Rani, Dr. Venkateshwar Rao, Dr. Pandu Naik, Dr. Srinivas and others.
