Surveillance cameras inaugurated in Meerpet

Hyderabad: As a part of expanding the Community CCTV cameras network across Rachakonda Commissionerate, a total of 106 surveillance cameras were installed under Meerpet police station limits here on Saturday.
Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy and Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat inaugurated the network of cameras installed at an estimated cost of Rs 38 lakh. These cameras installed at strategic locations covering the entry and exits, main routes and crime prone areas of the localities, will be connected to the command control room.
Officials said until now, a total of 1,925 Community surveillance cameras and 17,688 cameras under the Nenu Saitham Initiative has been installed under the limits of Vanasthalipuram division. In the recent past, chain snatching cases, house burglary and robbery cases were detected through CCTV footage and recovered stolen material, they said.
Sabitha Indra Reddy described it as a great initiative where the citizens with the help of police came forward and installed CCTV cameras for the security of citizens. She appealed to the public to join hands for a safer Rachakonda and urged local public representatives to ensure installation of more cameras in remaining colonies.
Mahesh Bhagwat said CCTV cameras have become an important aspect of modern-day policing and almost 70 per cent of the crimes were being detected with the footage. He urged the citizens and public representatives to come forward and install more cameras in their areas.
