Hyderabad: A Surya from Chennai and Gopalkrishna from Meerut bagged the titles in junior and open category categories respectively in the 189th Brilliant Trophy Chess Tournament conducted online on Monday.

In the junior’s category, Surya won the top honours with 10.5 points while P Harshith and J Niranjan settled at second and third places by scoring 10 points each in 12 rounds. Meanwhile, in the open category, Gopalkrishna beat Aditya Varun in tie-breaker to clinch the title.

Open category: 1 Gopalkrishna, 2 Adityavarun, 3 KVK Karthik, 4 Arul Anand, 5 J Malleswara Rao, 6 Pradip Awade, 7 Akashkumar, 8 Ishaan Das, 9 Maruthi, 10 Abdallah M Nistar.
