Suryapet: The Kodad police on Sunday arrested five persons at Khammam crossroads in the town and seized 1.5 litre hashish oil (liquid marijuana) from their possession.
The arrested were identified as Bodepudi Suresh(27), Natte Anudeep(21), natives of Kodad in Suryapet district, Jemmili John Victor(27), Vanthala Bheema Raju(31) and Vengada Govindu(19), who belongs to Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh state.
Presenting the arrested persons at a media conference held in the District Police Office at Suryapet here on Sunday, Superintendent of Police S Rajendra Prasad informed that Kodad town police, on the credible information, took up vehicles checking at Khammam crossroads and found 1.5 litres hashish oil, which was illegally being transported in a four-wheeler. Five persons, who were traveling in the vehicle, have been taken into custody by the police.
The arrested were smuggling hashish oil to Hyderabad after procuring it from a person in Andhra-Odisha Border at the price of Rs 75,000 per litre. They planned to make Rs 7 lakh by selling it to the customers in Hyderabad. Cases were filed against the arrested persons under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
