Suryapet: The civic authorities, backed by police, embarked on a demolition drive razing several structures built on government land in Huzurnagar on Wednesday.

The demolition spree targeted shops that have been in place for decades, affecting the livelihoods of many local residents. Residents in occupation of structures staged a protest voicing their concern against the demolitions. The protesters, who questioned the rationale behind the demolition, expressed their frustration and anger.

How can you destroy the livelihoods of people who have been here for 40 years, one of the protesters questioned. He pointed out that the poor and middle class were being evicted and their structures being raged with bulldozers. But the influential people were left untouched.

The demolition drive has drawn flak from all sections, with many calling for an immediate halt to the destruction and seeking alternative solutions to address the issue.
