Suryapet: Tribal associations took out rallies across the district and burnt effigies symbolising the Centre protesting against statement of the union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Bishweswar Tudu in Lok Sabha saying that the Centre did not receive any proposal from Telangana government seeking an increase in reservation for Schedule Tribes to 12 per cent.
A large number of tribal people participated in the protest demonstrations by holding placards and black flags and raising slogans against the Centre.
In Suryapet, the tribal association took out a rally from new bus stand to Telangana Talli statue and burnt an effigy. Tribal sarpanches, Mandal Praja Parishad (MPP) presidents, MPTC members and ZPTC members also participated in protest demonstration. In Nalgonda district, tribal organisaitons staged protest demonstrations and burnt effigies at Tripuraram and Nidmanoor.
Speaking on the occasion, a tribal MPP Kumari Bai said that the statement of the union minister was insulting to the tribal. The Uion Home Ministry had earlier announced that it had received a resolution of Telangana State Legislative Assembly for increase in reservations for STs. She reminded that Telangana Assembly had adopted the resolution for increase of reservation to tribals from six per cent to 10 per cent in proportion to their population. A letter written by union Tribal Welfare Ministry to the state government was also another evidence to prove statement of Bishweswar Tudu was wrong. She urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remove Bishweswar Tudu from his cabinet.
She also expressed anger on Bishweswar Tudu for trying to blame the State government on hike of reservation of STs. It was TRS government, which made hundreds of tribal hamlets as grama panchayats in the state, she added. She also demanded that the centre increase the quota to 12 per cent for tribals across the country. The tribals had also staged protest demonstrations at Matampally, Kodad, Nereducherla and Palakeedu in the district.
