Sushant Singh’s debut film Kai Po Che clocks 8 years
An old video of Sushant Singh surfaced on social media in which he had admitted that he lived with his character Ishaan for four months before getting on the sets to shoot for Kai Po Che.

Hyderabad: The iconic movie which marks the debut of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Kai Po Che, clocked eight years on Monday. The movie, directed by Abhishek Kapoor, propelled the actor to stardom, as he went on to feature in movies like Shuddh Desi Romance (2013) and Rajkumar Hirani’s PK in 2014. Later, he headlined blockbusters like the 2016 biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Nitesh Tiwari’s Chhichhore and reunited with director Abhishek Kapoor for the romantic-drama Kedarnath in 2018.

Adapted from Chetan Bhagat’s best-selling novel The 3 Mistakes of My Life, the buddy drama, Kai Po Che, tells the story of three friends Ishaan, Omi and Govind, played by Sushant Singh, Amit Sadh and Rajkummar Rao respectively, who dream of starting a sports academy. Touching various layers of the 2001 Gujarat earthquake, the 2002 Godhra train burning and the Gujarat Riots, the story depicts the lives of three youngsters as they navigate through hard times facing religious politics and communal hatred.
Director Abhishek Kapoor wrote on his Twitter handle, “The thrill of starting this journey with a new team hungry 2 give their best at the dawn of their careers stands most vividly in mind..One cant quantifies the love our film continues to receive over the years, neither can we quantify the pain we feel at the loss of our crown jewel(sic).”
Kai Po Che’s songs continue to bag a place in the playlists of fans. Music director Amit Trivedi also shared a clip on his Instagram account with Shubhaarambh playing in the background celebrating the movie’s release on this day in 2013.
The film also garnered acclaim for its performances by the three leads and sensitive handling of the story by director Abhishek.
Rajkummar Rao, too, had a career turnaround with Kai Po Che! and from there, he went on to feature in acclaimed films like Shahid for which he earned the ‘Best Actor’ National Award, 2014’s hit Queen and the 2015 drama Aligarh.
