Kothagudem: Tension erupted on Monday in Aswaraopet following the suspicious death of a married woman, as her family members assaulted her husband.

According to police, the woman, Lakshmi Prasanna (33) of Viswanathampuram in Kallur mandal, Khammam district, married Pula Naresh Babu of Khankhanpet in the same mandal in 2015. The couple had been residing in Aswaraopet for the past few years.

On Saturday night, Naresh Babu informed the woman’s parents that she had fallen down the stairs and was admitted to a hospital in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. When her parents arrived, they were shocked to find her dead and emaciated.

When her body was brought to Aswaraopet from Rajahmundry on Monday evening, her family members, who had arrived from Kallur, assaulted Naresh Babu. Police intervened to rescue him from their anger.

The woman’s father, Mudigonda Venkateswara Rao, lodged a complaint with local police, accusing Naresh Babu, his mother Vijayalakshmi, sister Dasari Bhulakshmi, and brother-in-law Srinivasa Rao of torturing Lakshmi Prasanna for additional dowry.

Aswaraopet SI Yayati Raju said a case of suspicious death has been registered and an investigation is underway.
