Hyderabad: Representatives of the Swachh Auto-Rickshaw Tipper Workers’ Union met BRS working president KT Rama Rao at his Nandinagar residence on Friday and submitted a representation on problems faced by nearly 20,000 auto-tipper workers engaged in sanitation services across Hyderabad over the past three decades.

The Union sought Rama Rao’s support for a series of demands, including official recognition and improved welfare measures for sanitation workers. They urged him to press the State government to provide mandatory life and accident insurance coverage to all workers and ensure dignity and respect for those involved in waste collection.

The workers also raised concerns over the lack of basic facilities, particularly for women employees at the Jawaharnagar dumping yard. They alleged that the absence of adequate toilets and washrooms forces female workers to endure long waiting periods.

The Union demanded that the Congress government’s recent Government Orders relating to garbage collection and bulk garbage management be withdrawn immediately. Warning of a large-scale agitation if their concerns are ignored, the workers said the new policies could adversely affect their livelihoods.

They also appealed to the government to provide double-bedroom houses to eligible auto-tipper workers, citing difficulties in securing rental accommodation despite performing an essential public service.
