Karimnagar: With most schools closing on Thursday, camps offering swimming classes are turning to be hotspots in the town, and parents are rushing with their children to these camps.
Besides the district administration, private schools and individuals are also conducting summer camps to give training to children in sports and games, drawing, chess, dance and other activities. Among other sports events, swimming is being given top priority.
There is a huge demand for swimming coaching being conducted by the District Youth and Sports Department. While about 500 children have already joined the coaching, more are rushing for admissions.
DYSO Srinivas Goud, a swimming coach, is giving top priority to the swimming classes. For this, after a gap of 20 years, the district Sports Department renovated the swimming pool at Ambedkar stadium by spending Rs 35 lakh.
Besides painting, electric wiring and filtration works were done. Bathing and changing rooms, showers and washrooms were also renovated.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Srinivas Goud said when he took charge, the swimming pool was in a pathetic condition. He took the initiative to renovate it by consulting with higher officials.
Renovation of the swimming pool was done only because of Collector Pamela Satpathy and Additional Collector Praful Desai, he said, thanking them for their support.
