Hyderabad: Syndrela Das capped a remarkable run by defeating Divyanshi Bhowmick 4-1 in the Under-19 singles final, bringing the curtain down today on the girls’ team events, the first leg, of the 87th UTT Inter-State Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championships at the Multipurpose Hall, Parade Ground.

With this victory, Syndrela completed a rare double, having already secured the Under-17 singles crown at the same championships. The promising paddler from West Bengal continues her impressive rise, adding to her earlier silver at the Senior National Championships in Indore.

The second leg of the tournament will commence the day after, with the boys’ events set to begin following a transition day tomorrow.

Divyanshi, meanwhile, appeared fatigued after a gruelling seven matches, including two doubles on the final day. The physical toll was evident. Although she claimed the opening game, Syndrela quickly seized control, winning four consecutive games to close out the match in dominant fashion.

Divyanshi put herself in control early against Delhi’s Diya Bramhachary, racing through the first two games with ease in the first semifinal. However, Diya fought back strongly to level the match by taking the next two, pushing the contest into a decider. Holding her nerve in the closing stages, Divyanshi regained momentum and closed out the final two games to book her place in the final.
