Hyderabad: Telangana AI Mission (T-AIM) started in May last year with the objective of facilitating AI startups to build their base in Hyderabad, works in critical areas identified by Telangana, enables government verticals to use AI solutions and works to contribute to the State’s GDP. Its CEO Snehanshu Mitra tells about the progress and plans to B Krishna Mohan of Telangana Today.

Year of AI
2020 is considered as the year of artificial intelligence. The same year also witnessed pandemic but that did not stop us as we had busy 15 months so far. A lot of foundational effort has been put into it. Many industry collaborations have been forged so far and these actions have already started bearing fruits.

Support
The Telangana Government had an interaction with multiple startups. We are consolidating the solutions and promise that wherever there is an opportunity, the Telangana Government will be the first customer. An AI investment fund is on the cards. The corpus will be used for accelerating startup activities and the proposal is being shared with the Government, which is the approving authority.

AI in agriculture
Artificial intelligence for agricultural innovation is a priority for Telangana. We did a grand challenge for consolidation of use cases and data sets. We met with a good success in this. Two pilots are happening. While one pertains to real time price discovery and volume management at electronic marketplaces, the other use case is related to farmer lending using farm/output backed credit risk assessment. We will work with different agencies and partners including the Government wings like the forest department to look at use cases and develop proof of concepts for the State.
