Hyderabad: Stating that people from different sections had suffered several hardships before the formation of Telangana, BRS MLC Takkellapalli Ravinder Rao said the State excelled in various fields after the BRS government came to power in 2014.

Despite several hurdles, BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao led the separate Telangana movement, involving people from all sections, and achieved statehood, he said.

Addressing the gathering, the BRS MLC explained to NRIs the discrimination Telangana had faced in the undivided State and the struggle waged for statehood under the leadership of the BRS president.

Despite the availability of Krishna and Godavari rivers, Telangana had struggled for drinking and irrigation water. People had to walk for kilometres to fetch drinking water as governments before 2014 had allegedly neglected the maintenance of tanks, weirs and sluices in the Telangana region, he recalled.

Farmers used to suffer immensely due to power cuts and burnt-out pump motors. Farmers owning 100 acres often struggled to secure food, he said. After Telangana achieved statehood, the farmers’ fate changed and farming became lucrative, he stressed.

“Realising the decades-long dream of Telangana under KCR’s leadership is a magnificent achievement in my life,” Ravinder Rao said.
